Waterton Lakes International Peace Park
Waterton Lakes NP and Glacier NP in the United States are designated International Peace Parks to honor the unique relationship between the US and Canada. Waterton Lakes NP straddles the border of Alberta and British Columbia. There are few roads and many hiking trails. The village of Waterton Lakes has a visitors center, an RV park, lodges, and restaurants. There is a four star hotel just outside the village, The Prince of Wales Hotel. There is a tour boat on upper Waterton Lake which travels into Glacier NP and returns. The thumbnail is the view traveling west from Cardston on Hwy 5 when the weather is clear. The weather is variable. We experienced low visibility from smoke, light rain, and clear and calm during three days we visited in June.
